Liaisons are an important resource for connecting families and the community to the school. However, the role of these staff are often undefined and underutilized. Helping these liaisons become a confident family coach focused on student learning outcomes requires quality professional development and the ongoing support of school leadership. When provided with the right tools and training, liaisons can effectively support families, engage with dignity as a confident learning partner, navigating school and district programs, systems, and procedures in support of students’ academic and social success.
The two-day Boot Camp will provide Liaisons with the opportunity to:
• Explore the research on family engagement including a deep dive on the Dual-Capacity Building Framework.
• Discuss the urgency of creating a strong sense of belonging for families in transition and why this is essential to establishing and strengthening home school partnerships.
• Practice implementing the elements of effective family engagement including strengthening relational trust, engaging families from an asset-based mindset, and building culturally responsive and respectful partnerships.
• Explore research-based strategies and best practices for building partnerships that elevate family voice and foster trust and collaboration.
• Engage in rich dialogue and interactive activities to better understand the role and responsibilities of a Liaison who supports families.
