SAMA (Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression) is a TBSI (Texas Behavior Support Initiative) approved course for verbal and physical de-escalation. SAMA teaches least restrictive, safe ways to help manage a student in crisis until the student can regain control. It is part of the SAMA philosophy that is it easier to prevent behavior from occurring by using positive, proactive interventions.
This two day course will directly target parents and guardians of children who currently display high rates of aggression, both verbal and physical. Parents/guardians will be taught a verbal de-escalation script, techniques to protect themselves from hitting, kicking and other aggression, as well as an emergency, temporary, safe hold if a child is in danger of hurting themselves or others. This course is co-taught by a special education counselor and behavioral specialist. Confidentiality is protected.
