p.a.p.a. - Parenting and Paternity Awareness Program

p.a.p.a. is the Parenting and Paternity Awareness program. Texas House Bill 2176 mandates that school districts must use the p.a.p.a. program in the high school health curriculum. In collaboration with the Texas Education Agency and the State Board of Education, the Office of the Attorney General has committed resources to provide the p.a.p.a. curriculum and training to ensure full compliance with the statute.

The TEKS connections identified for Career and Technical Education are:

Subchapter J Human Services: §130.272. Principles of Human Services; §130.273 Dollars and Sense; §130.275. Interpersonal Studies; §130.277. Child Development

Subchapter H Health Science: §130.222. Principles of Health Science and §130.231. Health Science Theory

The goals of p.a.p.a. are to:

  • promote responsible parenthood
  • build a basic understanding of paternity and child support laws
  • encourage the involvement of non-custodial parents
  • prevent relationship violence
  • support the formation of strong stable families

This six hour training provides an overview of the curriculum, explanation of the critical legal issues addressed in the curriculum, and the background training to effectively use with students. Attendees will receive the curriculum free for the p.a.p.a. program, as well as other resources.
