The Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association, in efforts to support our speech-language pathology assistants and supervisors, has developed the following training course. 

 

 

Module 1:  This module focuses on the roles, responsibilities and requirements for the licensed assistant as written by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language pathology and Audiology.  The module will help you understand what an SLP-A may do, clarify what an SLP-A may not do and help identify and problem solve through ethical concerns.

Module 2:  This module focuses on the roles, responsibilities and requirements for the SLP-A Supervisor as written by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language pathology and Audiology.  The module will help you understand what an SLP-A Supervisor may do, clarify what an SLP-A Supervisor may not do and clarify the responsibilities of SLP Supervisors when supervising SLP Assistants.

Module 3:  This module focuses on clinical considerations for the Speech-Language Pathology Licensed Assistant. This module focuses on increasing understanding of IEPs, optimizing partnerships with interpreters, assisting in managing behavior and providing feedback and reinforcement in your therapy sessions and helping plan for effective individual and group therapy sessions.

Module 4:  This module focuses on therapy planning for the Speech-Language Pathology Licensed Assistant . This module focuses on increasing understanding of objectives and baselining, assisting with target selection and sequencing, helping setup a therapy session, increasing use of effective intervention strategies and learning how to collect data.

Module 5:  This module focuses on speech sound disorders for the Speech-Language Pathology Licensed Assistant.  This module focuses on the types of speech sound disorders, need for early intervention, treatment selection,  treatment approaches for speech sound disorders and research related to apraxia, non-speech oral motor exercises, and dismissal criteria.

Module 6:  This module focuses on language disorders for the Speech-Language Pathology Licensed Assistants.  This module focuses on the various components of a language model,continuum of language therapy models,therapy strategies for younger children and therapy strategies for older children

It is recommended that Speech-Language Pathology Assistants and Supervisors watch all six training modules.

SLPs can request hours of TSHA continuing education credit for viewing ALL six training modules.  The cost for TSHA CEU credit is FREE for current TSHA members and $20 for non-members.

How to Request CE Credit:

Following the viewing of each training modules, a completion code will be provided.  Using the provided code, complete the Online Course Completion Notification Form located on the TSHA website at http://txsha.org/continuing_education/Online_Course_Completion.aspx.

TSHA members receive CE credit and certificate at no cost.  Non-Members need to pay $20 before the CE certificate will be sent.  Credit card payments can be made online at the time course completion is entered:  https://txsha.org/continuing_education/ce_payment.aspx.
