This series of two-day mathematics workshops supports the instructional strategies and content knowledge necessary for student success on STAAR and EOC. Please check the class notes for details regarding the content of each individual training.
Concepts will be introduced through hands-on, concrete experiences. Through exploration of concrete representation, participants will build understanding that leads them to pictorial and graphical representations and to abstract thinking.
In addition to gaining greater understanding of the concepts, participants will learn specific strategies to teach these concepts to a diversity of learner styles, including English Language Learners. Each workshop will focus on practical classroom application and incorporation of the new knowledge into CSCOPE or current district curriculum.
These workshops will be appropriate for mathematics teachers, special education teachers, bilingual and teachers of ELLs, intervention teachers, teacher leaders and instructional coaches.
This workshop focuses on multiple ways to teach
addition and subtraction of whole numbers and numerical fluency. Participants
will explore multiple strategies/methods to teach numerical fluency that help
teachers analyze and assess children's needs, and how to use this analysis to meet individual student needs. Teacher-directed activities and independent student activities that can be used in the classroom will be explored.. Participants will learn specific strategies to
teach these concepts to a diversity of learner styles, including English
Language Learners. Participants will receive Developing Number
Concepts: Addition and Subtraction by Kathy
Richardson and will learn how to incorporate these instructional
strategies into CSCOPE or their current curriculum. This workshop targets teachers in Grades 1-2 including ELL and
