Sensory Integration and Students with Visual Impairments
Participants will hear from Athena Oden, Author of
Ready Bodies, Learning Minds, Cultivating the Complete Child, regarding the impact of a visual impairment on a child's sensory processing system. Athena will provide an overview of sensory integration dysfunction and will discuss how sensory motor activities can improve a student's gross and fine motor skills, behavior, and communication. Members of the Reg 13 Sensory Integration Focus group, consisting of CTVI, COMS, OT, PT. and parents, will host a panel discussion to include case studies of 8 students who have participated in sensory motor activities recommended by Athena.
