CANCELED - Literacy Achievement Academies: Kindergarten (in Cedar Park)

The purpose of the TEA Reading Academy is to implement evidence-based reading academies for Kindergarten through grade 5. The Kindergarten through grade 3 literacy achievement academies will enhance teachers' knowledge and skills so they can effectively teach students in primary elementary grades to develop reading proficiency. The academies must address effective and systematic instructional practices in reading, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension and the use of empirically validated instructional methods that are appropriate for struggling readers and may address training in effect instructional practices in writing.

Who can attend? Teachers from eligible campuses in the identified grade levels have first priority. District administrators and instructional coaches can attend ONLY if space allows and without bumping out a qualifying teacher. Stipends are not available for administrators or instructional coaches.

Teacher stipend: A classroom teacher from an eligible campus who successfully completes an academy will be eligible to receive a $350 stipend. To be eligible for the stipend, teachers must: attend 3 consecutive training dates and are required to be present for the entire day.
