The Annual Homeless Education Institute 2017: Students, Trauma and Success
Objectives
- Discuss, share, and learn best practices to assist students in homeless situations.
- Identify and understand students experiencing trauma and best practices for serving students
- Learn the building blocks to create a sustainable and effective academic progress monitoring program for students experiencing homelessness
- Experience Circles for networking, self resiliency and validation of good work
Presentations will include:
- Trauma Sensitive Schools,
- Building blocks to create a sustainable and effective academic progress monitoring program in your district. These practices increased our graduation rate from 58% to 91% in three years. Participants will learn how to create the data reports needed to track and monitor a student’s attendance, state assessments, grades and credits earned. Strategies for cross collaboration with district and campus staff will be discussed. This session will help participants get ready for the new emphasis on high school graduation for homeless students in the Every Student Succeeds Act.
