Reading and Writing to Learn in Mathematics

The literacy gap in our student populations harms student motivation, ability to learn in all content areas, grade promotion, and career and college readiness. Our charge is simple: we must do more in all contents to address the literacy gap in our developing writers and readers.

This online course supports understanding of the literacy gap and math teachers’ role in addressing student literacy. Mathematics teachers and leaders will learn how to enrich their content instruction using easy-to-implement writing-to-learn strategies. The strategies in this course will engage student interest by activating background knowledge, assisting students’ processing of new information, and providing opportunities for reflecting on learning.

Learn how to simultaneously support our students’ literacy and content success!

This is a self-paced and self-guided course.  It can be taken individually or as a group.
