TELPAS Awareness Training: Online Learning Opportunity

The Bilingual/ESL team at Region 13 is in the process of updating the content of this course. It will be removed from the catalog until changes have been made.

Potential participants registering for this course certify that their district/campus TELPAS coordinator has given permission for it to be used as a medium for increasing teacher capacity to implement the TELPAS system.

This online learning opportunity provides new TELPAS raters with the knowledge of the levels of English proficiency based on the Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs).  Participants will view student examples and use the PLDs to identify characteristics of each level of English proficiency.  Participants will be able to apply the information learned from this workshop to their ELL students in order to differentiate instruction.

Correction to course content: On slide 12, the weighted percentages of each language domain are aligned to TEA expectations prior to 2014.  The current weighted percentages used in calculating a student's composite TELPAS rating are as follows:

Reading: 50%, Writing: 30%, Listening: 10%, Speaking: 10%

Participants should expect to spend approximately 2 hours to complete this course.  The content does not have to be completed in one sitting.
