PASA:
Promoting Academic Success and Accountability for English Language Learners, will highlight promising practices in the areas of accountability, instruction and research. In collaboration with the Texas Education Agency, Education Service Center Region XIII presents Promoting Academic Success and Accountability (PASA), a statewide conference for superintendents, administrators, and educators featuring national level speakers who will address critical issues in education for English learners.
Texas deserves the very best—a skilled, highly educated workforce. The future of our state depends upon our educating all students in order to close the achievement gap. Superintendents and campus administrators will have the opportunity to attend a variety of leadership sessions that address school district priorities for educating English learners.
These sessions will emphasize:
• assessment practices
• federal and state accountability systems and program monitoring
• Bilingual and ESL program design and implementation
• the most current, research-based instructional practices proven to impact student achievement for English learners.
Classroom educators and teacher leaders will be provided the opportunity to engage with top researchers in bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) education.
These sessions will emphasize:
• secondary ESL and content-based sheltered instruction
• implementing the new English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
• addressing the needs of immigrant students
• effective literacy and language instruction
• response to intervention programs.
